WHO? What? Where?
Robert Brook Allen | A Graphic Design Studio | A cornfield in Missouri
Hello, I'm Robert and this is my portfolio website. My first job as a designer was in 1980, my sophomore year of college. I finished school pre-computer, shortly after the earth cooled, so I think that means I'm considered a Graphic Design OG. I owned a copy of "Photoshop" version zero.
After the 80's in Kansas City working in advertising, I accepted a job at Scholastic in New York City in 1992. Fast forward to 1998, I'm teaching those design programs at Parson's School for Design/The New School.
Today, I can be found back on the family farm in Missouri, and with the help of the Internet, I do work with clients far and wide.
What's in a name
In 1998 I started working from my apartment in the West Village. Since I no longer had to be in an office setting I could finally get a furry office companion. My first office dog was a Mini Schnauzer I named Rembrandt, Remy for short.
At the time, most of my clients were the New York Design Studios working in Educational Publishing. Many of my clients were just a short walk away, or in my case a short dog walk away. In time it was routine for me to set Remy free to run into the studios announcing our arrival. One client would routinely say "Boy and Dog are here"... and the name was born.
Today, I'm joined by Boo Boo my black cat, Baylee the Protector, my rescue pooch, and Sweet Potato the reigning mini schnauzer, plus his cat, Mr. Pickle.
